Having a bit of a nutrition crisis on trying to maintain my ideal weight while doing CrossFit/strength training and sometimes distance running (depending on if I’m training for a race).
To start off – I am plant based about 95% of the time and incorporate eggs and fish in my diet on occasion. I can’t consume milk products due to food sensitivities and I stopped eating meat for various reasons.
In the past I have worked with a nutritionist and have learned a lot, but that nutritionist did not specialize in sports nutrition so I feel like I need a slightly different approach this time around.
When I count macros strictly (one cheat meal a week max in addition) I can drop about 15lbs over time but I generally gain it back eventually if I stop counting. I’ve had this experience when both being a meat eater and being plant based.
Currently I’m about 5’6, 160lbs, female. IMO my ideal weight would be about 140-145lbs. I’m starting to get frustrated with being fit but not as fit as I know my body can be.
I want to remain a somewhat consistent, lean weight going forward so am considering doing one of the following:
meeting with the nutrition coach at my box – however this will cost around $150 a month for however long i choose to do this
taking the nasm certified sports nutrition coach certification – will cost me about $700 but I’ve always been interested in nutrition to coach friends and family. I don’t know if I would ever do it professionally but it’s not out of the question as a side business.
get back on the macro train and do what I’ve done before, but risk not being able to maintain my weight
Do you have any advice? What are your recommendations? Bonus if you’ve done a nutrition cert or met with a coach and have feedback on whether it was worth the investment.
