I sometimes like snacking. What I don’t like, though, is how most of the snacks you find at the grocery store are packed with artificial additives and preservatives. So I decided to make my own baked chips at home, and the result didn’t disappoint at all!

They turned out super crispy and with a wonderful flavor, and are actually made with only 3 simple and inexpensive ingredients. These baked potato chips are one of the most original snacks you can offer to your guests and are ready in just 30 minutes.

How to make baked chips

  • Preheat the oven to 400ºF or 200ºC and line a baking sheet.
  • Wash and peel the potatoes
  • Thinly slice the potatoes into 1/16-inch-thick pieces (about 1.5 mm).
  • Pat the potatoes dry to remove the excess moisture.
  • Add the potatoes to a mixing bowl along with the oil, and mix until well combined.
  • Place the potatoes in a single layer onto the lined baking sheet, and bake for 10 minutes
  • Remove from the oven, turn each chip and bake for another 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the oven-baked potato chips with salt to taste and let cool for at least 5 min.
  • Serve your baked chips.

Baked chips, crispy, flavorful, and healthier than the store-bought ones. They are free from additives and preservatives and require only 3 ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound potatoes (450 g) or 2 potatoes (I used Yukon gold)
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400ºF or 200ºC and line a baking sheet.
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes.
  3. Using a mandolin or a sharp knife, thinly slice the potatoes into 1/16-inch-thick pieces (about 1.5 mm).
  4. Pat the potatoes dry to remove the excess moisture.
  5. Add the potatoes to a mixing bowl along with the oil, and mix until well combined.
  6. Place the potatoes in a single layer onto the lined baking sheet, and bake for 10 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven, turn each chip and bake for another 5 to 7 minutes, or until the chips are golden brown and appear crunchy. Keep an eye on the potatoes to make sure they don’t brown and overcook.
  8. Sprinkle the baked chips with salt to taste and let them cool for at least 5 min.
  9. Serve your oven-baked potato chips with vegan meat recipes like vegan steak, vegan chicken, vegan sausage, vegan turkey, or vegan burger, or even with some seitan, tempeh, fried tofu, baked tofu, vegan burrito, or vegan tacos.
  10. You could even dip them in some vegan cheese or vegan spinach dip.

Notes

  • To make these baked potato chips I used Yukon gold potatoes, but pretty much any type of potatoes will do (russet, Idaho, sweet).
  • Feel free to customize your oven-baked potato chips with your favorite kind of oil.
  • You can customize your baked potato chips with spices like ground black pepper, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, chicken seasoning, poultry seasoning, or even Italian seasoning. Add them before baking, along with the oil.
  • Nutritional info has been calculated using ⅛ tsp salt.
