VFC made waves upon its launch in December 2020, providing a realistic vegan fried chicken brand to rival KFC.
Started up by Veganuary co-founder Matthew Glover and chef Adam Lyons, VFC quickly became the new must-try vegan product.
Their vegan fried chicken is made from wheat protein, making it soya and nut-free, and is available in two varieties: VFC Bites and VFC Fillets, which can either be original flavour or spicy.
Four months on, the vegan chicken brand has secured a whopping £2.5 million in funding which will help VFC to scale up and go international.
Moreover, the duo is also working on improving the texture and flavour profile of the chicken even further.
‘Compete directly with chicken on price, taste and convenience’
Speaking in a statement, co-founder Matthew Glover said: “Our ultimate mission is to end factory farming, and so we are focused on driving efficiencies through our business that will allow us to compete directly with chicken on price, taste and convenience.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled with how well the launch phase has gone.”
VFC’s director of sales Stewart McGuckin added: “The launch phase has been phenomenally successful, with sales far exceeding our expectations, incredible foodservice and retail interest, as well as enquiries from more than 50 countries.
“All this has shown us two things: we have a brand and a product that people really love, and that we are ready to shift up a gear.”
