Vegan cookbook author and TV star Matthew Pritchard is no stranger to difficult challenges having found fame on the British stunt and prank TV series, ‘Dirty Sanchez’.
Since making a name for himself as an MTV stuntman and skateboarder, Matthew Pritchard has adopted a vegan diet and released a vegan cookbook and starred in the first vegan cookery show in the UK.
Now the plant-powered endurance athlete is about to take on the challenge of a lifetime as he gets set to row across the Atlantic Ocean to raise much-needed funds for Dean Farm Trust sanctuary.
Along with a team of three intrepid heroes, Pritchard will be putting his plant-power to the test as he attempts to row the 3,200 miles from Lanzarote to Antigua to raise money for the sanctuary and men’s mental health charity, Humen.
The journey will take around 35-45 days to complete, during which time Matthew and his team will row un-assisted, living and sleeping aboard their custom-built boat and eating a plant-based diet.
Pritchard is a proud patron of Dean Farm Trust and hopes to raise vital funds to help them to continue to help rescue animals as he attempts to row across the Atlantic.
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Pritchard said: “Being a proud Patron of their charity, that has struggled with funds due to lockdown, it’ll be a fantastic opportunity to hopefully raise a tremendous amount of funds to help the animals.
“Being vegan myself, I will be doing the crossing on a plant-based diet, highlighting to everyone that we don’t need animal products to fuel and power our bodies. Our boat will be entirely meat-free! I’m extremely grateful to Monkey Fist Adventures for giving us all the opportunity and platform to raise awareness for these important subjects.”
Dean Farm Trust founder, Mary Frankland, added: “We are so in awe of Matt and his drive to always challenge himself and his dedication to raising awareness and much-needed funds for our little sanctuary.
“Since we first met Matt in February of last year, he has been such a fantastic support. This is an incredible challenge and we can’t wait to follow his journey across the Atlantic. What a hero!”
The team will commence their trip on the 3rd of March. To donate to the Atlantic Dash challenge and follow Matt and the team on their Atlantic adventure, please visit monkeyfistadventures.com/atlantic-dash.
