Nottingham is set to open its first 100% vegan butcher shop, Faux, this spring, with a huge selection of plant-based meat alternatives on offer.
Nottingham is about to open its first vegan butchers shop this spring, serving up a variety of meat alternatives in a deli-style setting.
The artisan butcher Faux will have a selection of meatless meats on offer, including salami, black pudding, burgers, pastrami, bacon, pork belly and even chicken thighs.
Faux owners Ritchie Stainsby and Lauren Nally also run city centre restaurant No. Twelve, a popular vegan haunt serving up fine-dining style tasting dishes.
‘An authentic experience’
Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Ritchie said: “We have been working on our own range of plant-based meat alternatives for a couple of years now, trialling them in the restaurant on a few occasions. We feel we have been able to create some amazing products.
“The idea behind the concept is to provide an authentic experience for the customers, meaning they can shop small (or large) by weight, with fresh, locally made ingredients to cook with.”
Aside from their meat alternatives, the duo will also be selling their own brand pickles, glazes, gravy, fresh bread and a selection of other local, independent artisan products.
‘Similiar to real meats’
Ritchie continued, “Lots of vegan alternatives on the market are pre-prepared, leaving people without much choice of what to cook. With our base range of ingredients, they’ll be able to pull together hundreds of meals.
“The faux meats taste, look, smell and even behave very similar to real meats.”
With an opening date set for the end of March, Faux have big plans to future-proof their business. The duo hopes to launch breakfast packs for the ultimate vegan fry up, and BBQ boxes perfect for summer barbeques (pandemic permitting).
Moreover, the deli will offer freshly made sandwiches, rolls and bagels with fillings straight from the counter, as well as a range of hot and cold drinks, pastries, cakes and snacks available for takeout.
Faux vegan butcher shop will be open in Nottingham at the end of March if all goes to plan, providing mock meats to vegans, vegetarians and curious meat-eaters.
