Cinema-goers across the UK this week will be treated to a pro-vegan advert voiced by Babe actor James Cromwell.
The animated commercial is produced by Veganuary, the global pledge to try vegan for 31 days. It launched yesterday, and will be playing on 500 of the nation’s screens until New Year’s Day, the charity’s peak sign-up period.
Described by Veganuary as ‘cheeky’, the short cartoon features legendary creature Bigfoot, showing the changes he makes as he tries to reduce his carbon Bigfoot-print.
A vegan diet for the environment
Bigfoot, who lives alone in the woods, feels disconnected from the climate change news he sees on social media. But he decides to take action when his best friend Snowman melts.
Realising he must do his part to help save the planet, Bigfoot makes some eco-friendly changes. These include riding his bike instead of driving his car. In addition, he adopts a planet-friendly plant-based diet.
An urgent need for climate action
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, James Cromwell, star of Succession and Six Feet Under as well as the classic Christmas film Babe, said: “Do the planet and yourself a favour. Take the Veganuary challenge. Make a difference with little or no effort.”
Veganuary’s head of communications, Toni Vernelli, added: “Bigfoot may be mythical, but the need for urgent climate action is real.
“While shifting our diets may seem daunting, signing up to Veganuary makes it much easier as our free pledge is filled with all of the tools and resources you need to make it fun and delicious.”
More than 582,000 people from 209 countries took part in Veganuary’s pledge in 2021. Even more are expected to sign up this year. People can sign-up for free at veganuary.com to receive 31 daily emails. These feature nutritional information, recipes, meal plans and advice.
