I’m planning to hike a segment of the PCT in about a month, and I’m wondering what protein source I should take.
Meat-eaters usually carry beef jerky which seems very convenient, but I’m struggling to find a convenient vegan protein source for backpacking.
It’s not practical to carry cans of beans because they’re heavy and have excess liquid. It’s not practical to take dry beans because they take literally forever to cook. Maybe a bag of dry lentils would be practical because they cook in about 20-30 minutes. Would protein powder be practical? I can carry a bin of it with me and just mix some with some water whenever I stop to eat.
