American rapper and songwriter Cardi B has expressed interest in testing out a plant-based diet, in a tweet shared with her 20.4 million followers this week.
The tweet read: “I want to go vegan but I love meat.. are vegan meat replacements similar to meat in taste or not really?”
Thousands of responses flooded in, with very mixed reactions to the news.

The rapper received plenty of messages of support from fans and big vegan names, including Veganuary, PETA, Beyond Meat, and Lucy Watson.
Replies offered advice and even some freebies to get her started.
However, some users expressed a more negative opinion of veganism.
One user wrote: “Being Vegan isn’t healthy. You lose a lot of valuable nutrients and you can’t really eat anything unless it is fruit, veg and carbs. They are good for you, but you need everything in your diet.
“So imo, stay on the meats.”
In fact, it is possible to get all of the nutrients you need on a well-planned vegan diet.
And vegans certainly don’t eat only carbs. Many of us are already well aware that healthy fats and proteins are much easier to get on a vegan diet than people often think.
Why would Cardi B go vegan?
One fan expressed shock that Cardi B was willing to say goodbye to her beloved seafood boil.
She responded: “I had a stomach virus not so long ago and I feel like my digestive system haven’t been the same.
“I been drinking probiotics and I don’t see a change much. I be lookin at raw food pages a lot but that will be a huge change for me to do that.”
If Cardi B does switch to a plant-based diet, she may see an improvement in her gut health even with ‘processed’ meat replacement products.
This is according to a recent study which found that replacing just 5 meals a week with meat-free alternatives caused an increase in levels of groups of bacteria that produces gut-friendly butyrate.
